Why South African Addresses Are Tricky
Unlike many other countries, South Africa doesn’t have a straightforward street-side addressing system. Mapping software like Google Maps and Waze often struggle with stands, agricultural holdings, markers, and unit numbers. Sometimes they can’t even locate your complex when given just a street name and complex name.
When multiple stands are combined to create an estate or complex, finding the right entrance becomes even more challenging.
The Solution: what3words
That’s why we use what3words for all our deliveries.
What3words has divided the entire world into 3-meter squares and given each one a unique combination of three words. Instead of trying to navigate vague addresses, our drivers can head straight to your exact location.
For example, the entrance to our cold storage partner Coldfeet in Randburg is located at ///reinforce.against.spacing.
How to Share Your Location
On Your Mobile
- Download the free what3words app (iOS | Android)
- Walk to your main gate or front entrance
- Open the app and tap to get your three words
- Share those three words with us when placing your order
On Your Computer
- Go to what3words.com
- Find your property on the map
- Click on your main gate (not the middle of your property)
- Copy the three words that appear
- Include them in your delivery instructions
Important: Pin Your Gate, Not Your House
Please share the what3words address for the street-side of your gate, the front door of your complex, or the entrance to your driveway. This is where our driver will meet you.
Pinning the middle of your property or the back of your house won’t help us find you quickly.
Why This Matters for Cold Chain

Just as a reminder, we really need the street side of your gate, or front door in a complex, or the entrance to your driveway, to help us get to you quicker! Just remember, addresses cannot be coded based on STAND numbers, or PLOT NUMBERS, or MILEMARKERS or UNIT NUMBERS.
